Need this on streaming platforms already.
Back before Cody Johnson was backed by mainstream country radio and had a Grammy win under his belt, the former rodeo bull rider was massively popular in the Texas music scene. He released six independent albums before signing his first record deal with Warner Music Nashville back in 2018 and now has two #1’s on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart.
While his lengthy discography clearly speaks for itself, CoJo is also known for his tremendous takes on songs that aren’t his. Just refer to his cover of “Travelin’ Soldier” by Dixie Chicks (which currently has a massive 48 million views on Youtube) or his rendition of “She’s Actin’ Single (I’m Drinkin’ Doubles)” by Gary Stewart. Point is, it seems that everything Cody touches (or belts) turns to gold.
But one cover in specific, and there’s a good chance you’ve already seen it and are just here to watch it again, is his version of George Strait’s 1983 classic, “You Look So Good In Love.”
Uploaded to his YouTube channel back in October of 2016, the video has since gone viral on social media multiple times, with fans begging for the 37 year-old Texas native to release his own version to streaming platforms. While it still has YET to happen, I’m not counting it out entirely. In fact, I firmly believe this or his cover of “Travelin’ Soldier” would become popular in a way that’s reminiscent of Luke Combs’ “Fast Car” recording. Ya know, the one that went so viral, Luke had no choice not only to record it, but to release it as a single at Country radio.
And look, I’m not saying George Strait’s version is anything less than incredible (80’s George is superior), but Cody sang the absolute hell out of it. Check it out for yourself here:
