“I’m Going To Move To Nashville And Transition To Country” – Ed Sheeran Says Making Country Music Is His ‘End Goal’

Ed Sheeran is an artist who truly has no limit when it comes to both talent and genre experimentation. From his massive hits “Shape of You” and “Perfect” to his collaborations with the likes of Chris Stapleton, Eminem, Travis Scott, Justin Bieber and more, the British superstar has proven time and time again that he can dabble in nearly every genre — and it looks like country might be his next venture.

At this point, it’s fairly well known that Sheeran has been a longtime fan of the genre, telling Nash News back in 2023 that he’s a “massive country fan” and noting that he and his wife listen to country “all day long” at their house. Couple that with his appearance with Luke Combs at the 2023 ACM Awards as well as his most recent collaboration with Megan Moroney at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville last month, and it seems like we’re long overdue for a full dive into the genre from Sheeran.

Yesterday, the “Castle on the Hill” singer appeared on the Call Her Daddy podcast with Alex Cooper and added even more fuel to the fire regarding his endeavor into country music, saying that making a country record is his “end goal.”

When the topic of country music was brought up, Sheeran told Cooper that he’s recorded a few in the past but they’ve never been released, “I’ve made country songs in the past; they’ve just never come out. I have to do it properly, and once you transition to country, you can’t transition back. Once you’re there, you’re there.”

He would later reiterate how he would like to fully commit to the genre whenever he decides to release an album, noting that making the transition to country is something you have to do properly, “Nashville is like my favorite city in the States. It’s always been like my end goal. I’m going to move to Nashville and transition to country, but I think you just have to do it properly. It’s a genre you have to really respect, and it’s not just a dip in and out.”

Though Sheeran has gotten quite a bit of criticism over the years, there’s absolutely no denying his musical talent. From his brilliant acoustic sets using nothing but a loop to his ability to deliver some heartbreaking lyrics on stripped-back tracks such as “The A Team,” “Visiting Hours” and “Supermarket Flowers,” there’s no doubt that he can make the transition over to country fairly seamlessly.

Judging by the interview, it seems as if the 34-year-old singer/songwriter would be fully committed to making the transition into country music much in the vein of Post Malone last year. If that’s the case, I’m all for it.
