Despite being centered around the celebration of Harley-Davidson, bike culture and the legendary brand’s legacy, Harley-Davidson Homecoming this weekend in Milwaukee caught the attention of many country fans with an absolutely stacked lineup that included the likes of Chris Stapleton, Hank Williams Jr., Turnpike Troubadours, Treaty Oak Revival, Charles Wesley Godwin, Sierra Ferrell, 49 Winchester and more appearing over the event’s two days of music.
Unfortunately, due to severe weather slamming the greater Milwaukee area late on Friday, a majority of the acts scheduled were unable to perform. Despite Harley-Davidson issuing a full refund for tickets, fans were unable to see scheduled performers such as Treaty Oak Revival, Godwin and most notably, Williams Jr..
Saturday, however, went off without a hitch due to clear weather, setting the stage for Chris Stapleton to deliver a killer headlining set to end the weekend. Treating the crowd to a 21-song set which included the likes of “Broken Halos,” “You Should Probably Leave” and his 17x platinum cover of David Allan Coe’s “Tennessee Whiskey,” the 11x Grammy winner proved once again why he’s one of the best performers in the genre today.
Leaving the stage after performing the aforementioned “Tennessee Whiskey,” Stapleton returned to give the crowd one final song: none other than Williams Jr.’s iconic 1984 hit, “All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight.”
Clearly paying respects to Bocephus and giving the crowd a taste of what they missed on Friday night, Stapleton delivered what can only be described as a perfect cover, matching the energy of the original perfectly. Only a few can do a Hank Jr. song that rivals the legend himself, but the “Starting Over” singer came close here.
Stapleton is roughly halfway through his current All-American Road Show tour with shows remaining in New York, Phoenix, Denver and more coming up over the next month. Upcoming tour dates include the following:
