If you’ve been around since her pre-“Choosin Texas” fame, Ella Langley’s bangs weren’t always a staple to her look.
The leading female in country music that we know now, who’s currently less than a week away from the release of her upcoming album, Dandelion, is pretty much known for her signature bangs. However, before and throughout the 2023 Excuse The Mess era, Langley’s long, wavy brunette hair was either seen in a middle part or sporting some side bangs right before 2024’s hungover, which eventually evolved into the full fringe fans now gush over.
The Alabama superstar appeared on Theo Von’s This Past Weekend today, April 7, and the two got to talking about their DIY haircuts throughout the years, including this career-defining transformation. According to Langley, like a five-year-old little kid, these bangs were the product of free will and some scissors backstage.
Insanely enough, Langley revealed that she cut her own signature style just 20 minutes before heading out on stage. “I have a bad tendency to cut my own hair. Most of the time, it goes bad; that’s how I got bangs in the first place.”
She revealed that the decision was thanks to the overstimulation of her original trademark cowboy hat blowing in the wind before one show saying, “I was wearing a cowboy hat for a while, and then I took it off cause it was windy one show, and it was pissin’ me off and I just decided you know what I’m just gonna take it off and I liked how my bangs like were kinda around my face.”
Impulsively, she just decided to go all in, but of course, this all took place before one of the most important photoshoots of her life. “Like 20 minutes before I walked out on stage, I decided to cut my fringe a little bit, and it was so bad. I was shooting the cover art for my first record that next week, and Caylee was like [middle finger] I hate you, so I just told her full send it with the bangs.” Luckily, Langley’s long-time photographer, Caylee Robillard, swooped in to the rescue to clean up the chop before she shot the iconic hungover album cover, where her bangs are more of a side part swoop (probably to cover up the original messy chop).
During the touring phase for this album, Langley completely embraced the full frontal bangs and hasn’t looked back since. “I don’t think I could ever change it. It changed my life a little bit.”
Given that Langley’s rise to fame took place pretty much right after she cut her bangs with the success of her highly awarded duet with Riley Green, “You Look Like You Love Me,” followed by the radio hit, “Weren’t For The Wind,” it makes sense that she’d assume a correlation to her look. Theo Von piped in with the fact that these tracks might have also played a big part with Langley jokingly agreeing, “Well, maybe a little bit the music, but mainly the bangs.”
So fear not for all the die-hard fans of her blown-out hairstyle, it’s here to stay as we head into the new soundtrack of 2026, with Dandelion set to release this Friday, April 10. Marking Langley’s sophomore project, the bangs (and incredible music to come) are bound to usher in another amazing year for the 26-year-old, who will also head out on the road in a few weeks alongside Morgan Wallen on his Still The Problem tour and her headlining Dandelion tour.
