They say no two Eric Church shows are the same.
Keeping true to that theme, the country music icon pulled out all the stops for his first of three headlining shows at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheater. Last night, July 6, kicked off the string of performances over the next couple of days, joined by opener Corey Kent for an unforgettable set.
Delivering a mixture of his own hits, including the classic summer anthem, “Springsteen,” along with “These Boots,” “Sinners Like Me,” and even his unreleased OG fan throwback, “Julia.” Church, of course, also sprinkled in a number of covers, including Queen’s 1978 hit, “Fat Bottomed Girls.”
There’s something so perfect about this pairing between Church’s echoing vocals and the classic rock band’s iconic track off of their seventh studio album, Jazz. Accompanied by three background vocalists, they truly did the song justice in true Freddie Mercury form, introducing the track with their ringing accapella voices before the band amped up for the verses.
While this isn’t the first time Church has put his own spin on the fan-favorite, performing it on his 2019 Double Down Tour and also paying homage to the band’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” during his full-blown classic-rock medleys, there’s just something special about hearing it ring through the acoustics of Red Rocks. Lord only knows what he’ll have up his sleeve for round 2 of his Morrison, Colorado concert tonight with special opening guest, 49 Winchester.
Mr. Misunderstood will round out the special series of shows on Wednesday night, July 8, alongside the Creekers before heading back to the stage at Lake Tahoe Amphitheatre on July 15 and 16 with ERNEST.
