It may not be “Billy Bob Loves Charlene,” but arguably country music’s second most famous graffitied phrase has officially been painted over.
Right in Leipers Fork, Tennessee, just outside of Franklin, is an iconic landmark for Jason Aldean fans hoping to relive the opening lyrics to his 2010 hit, “Tattoos On This Town.” For those living under a rock, the line goes: “And to this day up on that overpass, Even underneath the new paint, You can still see, ‘Allie will you marry me?'”
In the music video for Aldean’s chart-topping hit, you can see the overpass painted with big white lettering, and 16 years later, it remains a staple lyric for fans to scream at the top of their lungs at his shows— and visit the real-life replica. While it’s not the exact spot where the music video was filmed, fans online have posted numerous videos visiting the remade scene on Wilkins Branch Road.
Most recently, the overpass has also been sporting the slightly inaccurate wording of “Alli Will You Marry Me?” to fit the spelling of a real-life proposal, verified by Alli Marie, who showed off her new diamond ring in a comment underneath one of the TikTok posts. (Shoutout to her fiancé ‘GY,’ who left his initials next to the painting).
Beyond being a sentimental proposal spot, apparently it’s also where every cool 17-year-old goes to show off their freshly washed lifted trucks. In one of the most recent viral TikToks from July 10 showing off the bridge (and of course a Chevy Silverado Z71), many users took to the comment section to voice their complaints over the wording now being painted over.
And unfortunately, unlike the song says, even underneath the new paint, you can not see the lyrics. The graffiti has been completely covered with dark gray paint, though it’s still unclear whether it was done by local town maintenance crews or a civilian.
Either way, many fans were pretty disappointed with the new paint job:
Although one local user pointed out that as the TikTok videos continue to go viral and the trend grows, the influx of people visiting the overpass and running into the road to recreate the videos probably isn’t the safest idea.
Either way, it seems like at some point someone new is bound to revive the painting and bring another Jason Aldean-themed proposal to the Franklin area. In the meantime, for those hoping to experience the song live in concert, it’s once again made its way back on Aldean’s setlist for his 2026 Songs About Us Tour.
His string of 22 stops throughout the summer will kick back up tomorrow night, July 23, in Wichita, Kansas, and officially wrap up on September 26 in Gilford, New Hampshire.
