If you’ve ever wondered who the woman is behind everyone’s favorite “Beer Never Broke My Heart” singer, meet Mama Combs.
The North Carolina mother of her only child turned country superstar, Luke Combs, recently joined her son on stage, and I can see where he gets his bad-a ** personality from. Currently overseas on the European leg of his 2026 My Kinda Saturday Night tour, this past weekend Combs brought his rowdy stadium show to the Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh.
By now, it’s pretty common knowledge that Combs always takes time during his 2020 hit, “1, 2 Many” featuring Brooks & Dunn, to bring out a few of his famous friends for a mid-song shotgunning break. Fittingly, this time around, at Friday’s July 24 show, the 20-number-one chart-topper brought out Scottish rugby brothers Zander and Matt Fagerson.
The following night, fans were also ecstatic to see him joined by Sam Heughan and Richard Rankin from the Outlander series, decked out in their matching grey kilts (oh, and for any Scottish soccer fans, John McGinn joined in). However, during both concerts the real show-stealer was Mama Rhonda Combs, who acted as the bev-girl, bringing out cans of Scotland’s most popular beer, Tennent’s Lager.
Grinning from ear to ear and hyping up the crowd as she handed off the beer to the boys at Friday night’s show, I don’t think you could’ve asked for a more enthusiastic walkout partner. Shaking her fists in the air and clapping for her son, that right there is the look of a proud mama standing in front of around 67,000 fans.
Sitting in the audience was also the remainder of Combs’ family, including his youngest son, who was seeing his Dad sing for the first time. Combs added, “The older one, it’s only his second time, and he’s only seen two songs, so I don’t know what they’re thinking, but wherever you’re at, boys, daddy loves you.”
Reflecting on the insane fact that his boys were getting to witness him on stage performing a set of 28 songs rather than “change their diapers and make them breakfast,” it was a pretty special family affair for Combs, who also attributed a portion of the set to his wife, Nicole. Insanely enough, Combs’ record-breaking tour will wrap up this weekend with a string of three massive London shows at Wembley Stadium from July 31-August 2.
