They say when you get married that you start to assimilate to your spouse’s interests and hobbies.
Hence why country music singer Lainey Wilson was the face of College GameDay a couple of weeks ago and why her ex-Steelers quarterback husband, Duck Hodges, is trying to learn how to sing. The couple, who tied the knot this past May in what was basically country music’s royal wedding of 2026, recently shared a clip of themselves tag-teaming Wilson’s latest single, “Phone, Keys, Wallet.”
Yesterday, Wilson posted the video to social media of the two side by side on their back porch, during which Duck starts off the clip announcing, “I’m with the music, and she’s gonna teach me how to sing.” Cheesin’ ear to ear, he lets his Grammy Award-winning wife take the lead on her June 4th release with John Mayer.
He supportively nods his head along, trying to learn the lyrics before stopping her in confusion come the second verse, holding his arm out to pause and say, “One line at a time.” Wilson slows things down for the novice, who still admits, “I can’t do it.”
The “Whirlwind” singer persists, though, hyping him up, and sure enough, she does get him to sing along for a few words, and you know, before he ruins it with a nervous giggle, Duck didn’t sound half bad. He stops and clarifies, “I’m a whistler, lemme whistle it.”
And then, kinda sounding like a drunk Tweety Bird, he whistles the tune, which I don’t think Wilson loved, hilariously ending the verse by telling him, “Little flat, but that’s alright, that a** ain’t flat.”
In true country boy fashion, Duck sticks to his roots, ending the video by saying, “Look, I know how to duck call that’s about it.” He also chimed into the comments affirming his wife’s cheeky quip by doubling down: “No that a** ain’t.”
Luckily, I don’t think Wilson will be extending any future acoustic back-porch performances to her whistling sidekick, but hey, at least he knows how to appreciate her signature dump truck. The bell-bottom rockin’ Louisiana native has a pretty sparse touring schedule ahead for the fall, with just a few festival stops lined up before she takes the stage as the host for this year’s CMA Awards on November 18.
