Maggie Baugh Nails It With Newest Release, “Take Me To Church”

Country artist Maggie Baugh‘s career has been on the rise over the past few years, thanks to several massive hits including “Think About Me” and “Drinking to the Broken Hearts,” both of which have over 1.5 million streams on Spotify to date. The South Florida-native also recently celebrated her third single of the year, “From Where I’m Standing,” surpassing 100k streams in under a month. Just yesterday, she proved she’s keeping the momentum going with the release of her newest song, “Take Me To Church,” inspired by none other than Eric Church himself.

Maggie Baugh is an independent artist, something I truly believe is the secret to her growing success. Not only is the “Think About Me” artist a majorly talented singer-songwriter, but she’s also an insane musician. She can play the fiddle, and play it well. Like, well enough to play it on stage with Charlie Daniels at 13 years old. And as if that’s not impressive enough, Maggie can also pick up a guitar and effortlessly shred just about anything – a skill she showcases in her signature TikTok series dubbed “FTL,” “Finish The Lick.” Maggie self-produces and plays a part in writing most of her own songs too, and her latest release is no exception. She joined forces with Kate Hasting, Kimberly Atwood, and Sarah Jones to co-write “Take Me To Church.”

Maggie gave her followers the first glimpse of her tribute to Eric Church in early April, taking to social media to share a few seconds of the track. “This is for anybody who’s obsessed with Eric Church like I am,” Maggie said. She explained the feeling of wanting to go back to the days of being 17 again, listening to “Springsteen” in her jeep. She shared the song was titled “Take Me To Church,” later revealing it would be out 6/16, and fans have been hyping it up ever since.

“Take Me To Church” contains references to a TON of Eric Church tracks, cleverly woven throughout the song. The most apparent is “Springsteen,” Church’s multi-platinum hit from his third studio album “Chief.” This isn’t a surprise at all, since Maggie admitted this was the inspiration for the song in the first place. She even incorporates the trademark “wo-o-oah” from “Springsteen” into the chorus of her song. (If you know “Springsteen,” you know what I’m talking about.)

Maggie lists several other Eric Church classics in the lyrics of “Take Me To Church,” naming hits like “Give Me Back My Home Town,” and “Like A Wrecking Ball.” She also includes more recent tracks like “Hell Of A View,” and takes it all the way back to 2009 with a nod to “Hell On The Heart” from Church’s sophomore album, “Carolina.” Even “Raise ‘Em Up,” Eric Church’s 2013 collab (and sixth No. 1) with Keith Urban is mentioned, along with “We Were,” which Church co-wrote for Urban in 2019.

“Take Me To Church” only dropped yesterday, but it already looks like it could become a smash hit, and possibly Maggie Baugh’s most viral song to date. Fans have been streaming the absolute hell out of the track, and Maggie announced in an Instagram post earlier that the song had broken 10,000 streams in under 24 hours. “Thank you….from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU!!” she captioned her post.

Maggie Baugh brings all the nostalgia, and all the summertime “windows down” energy with this one. And if you’re an Eric Church fan, it’s without a doubt a must-listen.
