That’s how it’s done.
Just a month after the Turnpike Troubadours made their late night TV debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Charles Wesley Godwin became the next indie country darling to make his debut on the show last night.
Godwin has been one of the most prominent names in independent country. From touring on multiple runs with Zach Bryan and releasing a song with him to signing a major label deal with Big Loud earlier last year, it seems that Godwin is on the cusp of breaking into the mainstream any minute now.
Coming just a month after his appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, Godwin took his talents to Hollywood and played Cue Country Roads live during Kimmel’s Monday, February 12th show.
Godwin announced that he and the Allegheny High were performing on Kimmel in an Instagram post back on Jan. 8.
Kimmel has been a figure that many have grown to dislike as of late, especially after his public feud with New York Jets quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, back in January. With that being said, it is still a massive win for both Godwin and Co. as well as the indie/alt. country scene that they are playing on a mainstream late night show such as Kimmel’s.
Despite the negative press around him, Kimmel has become somewhat of an outlet for indie/alt. country artists as of late given that the Turnpike Troubadours and Sierra Ferrell have both appeared on the show in the past month.
Godwin has quickly become one of the must-see acts in all of country music due to his electric live shows, and his performance on Kimmel was everything that you would expect from the Temporary Town singer.
He and the Allegheny High absolutely killed it with a rockin’ performance of Cue Country Roads, a fan-favorite track from Godwin’s major-label debut album, Family Ties. While not quite as electric as his live shows simply due to the lack of audience, the track still sounded just as good as the studio version.
Lead guitarist, Al Torrence and banjo player, Read Connolly, absolutely let loose on the solo and once again proved why the Allegheny High are such a special band to catch live.
