A piece of Dolly Parton history is officially up for grabs in the Hollywood Hills, but you’re going to need some pretty deep pockets to call it home…
A Hollywood Hills residence once owned by the late country music legend and her husband, Carl Dean, has officially hit the market with an asking price of $7.95 million, marking the first time the property has been offered for sale in 25 years.
Parton and Dean purchased the Los Angeles property back in 1985 for $750,000, during a stretch when Dolly was already well into becoming one of the most recognizable entertainers on the planet. The couple held onto the home for roughly five years before selling it in 1990 for $1.2 million.
These days, the property is still appropriately known as the “Dolly Parton House,” though it looks quite a bit different from the place Dolly and Carl once called home. The large house was rebuilt in 2009 and has also received additional upgrades in the years since, transforming it into a nearly 4,700-square-foot luxury home tucked away at the end of a cul-de-sac in the Hollywood Hills’ famous Bird Streets neighborhood. And it certainly has the price tag to match….
The four-bedroom home features massive windows throughout the living and dining areas, providing sweeping views of Los Angeles and all the way out toward the Pacific Ocean. The house also includes a library/media room, family room and a large kitchen that opens toward the pool and outdoor entertaining area.
The primary suite is basically its own section of the house, complete with a fireplace, coffee bar, two bathrooms, steam shower, walk-in closet, private deck and additional space that can be used as either an office or home gym. Outside, there’s a pool and spa overlooking the city, plenty of room for entertaining, a garden and Zen trail, along with a two-car garage and additional parking.

While the house itself has changed significantly since Dolly lived there, apparently it remained almost untouched for quite some time after she left…
Listing agent Edward Tinney told Mansion Global that when he first leased the property around 2002, remnants of Dolly’s time there were still everywhere. He recalled pink walls, purple carpeting and even wig stands inside a room connected to the primary bedroom that had apparently served as a dressing room. In other words, it sounds about as Dolly Parton as you could possibly imagine.
The current owner reportedly purchased the property for $2.05 million in 2001, meaning a sale anywhere near its current $7.95 million asking price would represent quite the return.
Interest surrounding the property has reportedly surged, with its first open house drawing a sizable crowd as potential buyers got a chance to see a home once occupied by one of the most legendary figures country music has ever produced.
Of course, whoever ultimately buys it won’t exactly be moving into Dolly Parton’s old house as she knew it, considering the extensive rebuild and renovations. But the address, and the history that comes with it, remains the same.
