Continuing his numerous on and off-stage collaborations with country music singers, Brandon Lake joined Jordan Davis last night for a stripped-down performance of his 2021 hit, “Buy Dirt.”
Filling into Luke Bryan’s boots on this number one radio chart topper, Lake started out the performance at a recent stop on his King Of Hearts tour, revealing that it was one of his and his wife’s favorite songs around the time they bought their home in the Lowcountry, South Carolina. He told the crowd of fans at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, “Brittany and I, we moved out of the city, and my life just started getting really busy. We put an offer on this house, we had to wait six months til we moved out there. What I didn’t realize is that that land would heal me in ways I didn’t know I needed healing.”
He added that during this process “Buy Dirt” became a symbol of this new chapter of their lives, saying, “Me and Brittany played this song like every single day, it just became our anthem, and so I wanted you to share it with us.” The two then led into a gorgeous rendition that, despite singing to a room of probably 15,000 fans, felt uniquely intimate.
The song reminisces about the importance of the greater things in life, like focusing on family, giving back in church and starting a homestead, which is the perfect fit for Lake’s own faith based musical messages with him quoting one of the song’s lyrics in the caption, “Thank the good Lord for it, cause He ain’t makin’ any more of it – so buy dirt.” This may also not be the last we’ll see of this duo, either, considering Lake has continued to step into the country realm with him hosting a massive writers’ retreat for a full-blown country project this past fall.
During the getaway, Lake wrote some of his latest collaborations alongside Bailey Zimmerman (“Believe”), and Lainey Wilson (“The Jesus I Know Now”). Per his January teaser post on Instagram, Thomas Rhett, Tyler Hubbard, Hardy, and more were in attendance at this country Christian fusion with the promise of more new music on the way for the “Gratitude” singer.
