For all y’all trolling Luke Bryan online…keep one eye open at night.
Just kidding, the 50-year-old country music staple hasn’t quite yet entered his villain arc to that extent after being blasted for his recent goofy hit “Fish Hunt Golf Drink.” For the most part, he’s actually taken the hate pretty gracefully (except for a few internet clapbacks of his own).
Bryan sat down with the one and only Theo Von today for his This Past Weekend podcast, and the combination of those two southern boys went just about how you’d expect it to. The two hour long episode is filled with plenty of goofy banter, childhood stories and Bryan’s hilarious cackle stealing the show.
Luckily, the two also left room towards the end of the show to touch on Bryan’s viral list-heavy promo-single off of his upcoming album Signs, and the Georgia-native set the record straight for all of the bold “teenagers” ripping his song to shreds on social media. He passionately shared with Theo that the track was, “making guys like they’re at a camera going, ‘I hate you.'”
Welp, Luke then affirms, “I’m like watching it, and I’m like, I can see your face. Like, if I see you one day I’m going to f*ckin knock the sh*t out of you.” I get that people probably assume there are no real consequences to publicly calling out celebrities online, but I think every Bryan hater on the internet just lost their chance of ever attending one of his shows. Especially this guy:
Everybody’s gotten too d*mn bold these days. Bryan continued, echoing this thought by noting, “people have lost their minds like I get [typing] ‘I hate you, choke on your own vomit, die in your sleep. [click] but these cats are saying it.”
C’est la vie for Bryan, though. I have no doubt he’ll clock somebody’s sh*t for talking trash about him, but he also seems pretty well aware of the fact that he’s a grown man getting stones thrown at him by a bunch of teeny-boppers online. He ends the conversation with the ultimate mic drop, “Dude, you’re 16. You’re talking to a grown man that’s made a sh*t ton of money doing this.”
As for his household, he says, “If I caught my kids doing some stuff like that, I would kill them.” And to be honest, I think we need more parents like that in the world.
And while collectively hating on poor Luke Bryan may seem like a new internet fad, as he points out to Theo, he was experiencing the same kind of backlash way back in 2011 from fans who “couldn’t handle” his hit “Country Girl (Shake It for Me).” He’s always had an affinity for fun, sometimes hard-to-take-seriously bangers, and you know what? As he pointed out, they’ve made him a pretty fat chunk of cash over the years.
Now I just need to know if he’s seen his latest viral “fart goes the butt” comment section…
