Beyond his thirty-three number one hits, a highly successful thirty-year career, and a lasting bad-ass legacy, Toby Keith also had a pretty sick (and well-deserved) decked-out ranch in Norman, Oklahoma.
Prior to his hard-hitting 2024 passing at the age of 62, the country music icon resided in the massive 160-acre ranch on the outskirts of the college town. With over 10,000 square feet, a custom waterslide and pool, and a six-car garage full of vintage classics, the five-bedroom estate is said to be worth around $3.2 million.
Luckily, rockstar legend Sammy Hagar gave viewers a glimpse into Keith’s pad a little over six years ago on his very own featured episode, “Big Dog Daddy,” on the AXS TV series, Rock & Roll Road Trip, from March 2017. Interestingly, before this intimate home visit, the two had a long history together as friends and co-performers, dating way back to 2001.
In a tribute video to the “Beer For My Horses” singer following his February 2024 passing, Hagar noted in the caption, “I first met Toby in September 2001 in Las Vegas, and while I know a lot of people, I don’t have that many friends. I just lost one of them.” Giving a small glimpse into their friendship, the Van Halen frontman brought fans directly into Keith’s home, showcasing the incredible backyard for a sit-down interview, along with his stacked garage of everything from a ’69 428 Cobra Jet Mach to a ’73 Cutlass ragtop— which they proceeded to cruise over to the local Hollywood Corners Bar (owned by Keith).
The episode also wouldn’t be complete without a little “noodling” between the two standout musicians who take things back to the house for an acoustic guitar-led performance of “Rum Is The Reason.” He explains on the show that the 2015 hit was inspired by the concept that “rum is the reason pirates never ruined the world.”
The rest of the song centers around all the other types of drinks that led to the downfalls of some of the world’s figureheads. Hagar led a hand in the instrumentals, affirming the performance with an enthusiastic finish, saying, “I’ll drink to that.”
In another clip from the episode, Hagar also joined in on singing Keith’s classic hit, “I Love This Bar,” which is just pure jam session gold with the two trading off goofy remarks in between their lines. Despite seeming like an alcohol-induced rendition, Keith notes, “that might be the earliest we’ve ever sang together,” with Hagar clarifying, “it might be the worst job I’ve ever done on the d*mn song with ya,” but you just can’t help but smile at the two’s infectious friendship.
