Megan Moroney is one of the hottest acts in all of country music these days. In the past year, she earned her first-ever No. 1 at country radio with her viral, college football-themed love story song,Tennessee Orange, and she landed the top spot on Rolling Stone’s 25 Best Country/Americana Albums of 2023 list with her debut record, “Lucky.”
Since then, she has been featured on Old Dominion’s “Can’t Break Up Now,” a collaboration from the band’s fifth studio album, “Memory Lane,” and she also released her first song of 2024 last month with “No Caller ID,” a post-breakup track that has already become a fan favorite.
Fast forward to today, and Megan has dropped a new, stripped-down live version of the hit song, in what she calls the “Emo Cowgirl Live Sessions,” to YouTube and all streaming platforms.
Accompanied by nothing but acoustic and steel guitar, Megan lets her raspy vocals and emotional storyline shine beautifully here. Written by Moroney, as well as Jessi Alexander, Connie Harrington and Jessie Jo Dillon, the song tells the story of a girl consistently receiving drunk calls from her ex on a blocked number just as she’s finally starting to move on. By the end of the song, she finally gains the strength to do what’s best for her and just lets the phone ring, something most of us have had to do at some point or another.
While teasing another unreleased song, “28th of June,” on social media, Megan announced she is almost done writing her sophomore record. While no further details have since been revealed, fingers crossed it drops sometime this year.
