Just as she was being launched into the limelight with “Tennessee Orange,” Megan Moroney found herself in some hot water when a rumored relationship with country superstar Morgan Wallen began to circulate online. With Moroney being a University of Georgia fan and Wallen being a University of Tennessee fan, the messaging in the chart-topping track posed a question that country music lovers are still anxiously awaiting an answer to: Did Megan Moroney actually date Morgan Wallen?
Today (July 31), the self-proclaimed “emo cowgirl” put the rumors to rest on an episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast. When asked the question explicitly by host Alex Cooper, Moroney said “I have so tried to avoid that in every single interview I’ve ever done,” eventually admitting that she and Wallen “never exclusively” dated.
She then delved into the details of their complicated connection, which began almost five years ago:
“Him and I met in 2020. Jon Langston actually introduced us, and so I was a senior in college. COVID hadn’t happened yet. His ‘Dangerous’ album wasn’t even out yet… We were friends for a long time, we were not just friends, and now we’re friends,” the “No Caller ID” singer spilled. “We weren’t exclusively dating ever, and I think both of our schedules, like when we try to hang out, it’s like, ‘Okay, we have this one day of the whole month where we’re both maybe in town, and then someone’s got something going on.’ It was like that sort of thing, but him and I are friends.”
In this same interview, Moroney could not confirm or deny whether or not her smash hit “Tennessee Orange” is about Wallen, but based on the smirk on her face after Alex Cooper asked the question explicitly on the Call Her Daddy podcast, signs point to yes…
To conclude the discussion surrounding the “Last Night” singer once and for all, Moroney dished, “Just, because he’s such a private person, it’s just feels like awkward talking about it,” prior to moving on to discussions surrounding her current dating life and more.
