    Some damn good picks.

It’s well known by now that Koe Wetzel dabbles in many different styles of music. Best known for his unique blend of country and rock, it’s clear that the “Ragweed” singer incorporated everything from country and bluegrass to grunge and even some R&B over the course of his career. With that being said, it should come as no surprise that Wetzel’s Mount Rushmore of music is pretty damn diverse.

In a backstage interview with Wrangler Western, Wetzel discussed everything from the cover art of his new album, 9 Lives, the process of developing his unique sound to his aforementioned Mount Rushmore of music.

Wetzel’s final four ultimately consisted of Kurt Cobain, George Strait, Eminem and Frank Sinatra, who he referred to as his comfort music.

The Cobain and Strait picks are pretty much exactly what you’d expect from Wetzel. The grunge influence on his music simply can’t be ignored, and I’d honestly be surprised if any country artist from Texas didn’t point to Strait as an influence. The Eminem and Sinatra picks are kind of wild cards, but if you know Koe Wetzel, it honestly shouldn’t surprise you given just how unique of an artist and person he is. He, himself, is a wild card in his own right.

Discussing the Sinatra pick, Wetzel said, “Our family is from East Texas. I don’t think they’ve even heard of Sinatra before, to be honest with you. For some reason, I don’t know, I got into him in late high school. It’s like my comfort music which is pretty strange. I feel kind of weird saying it now”

Overall, it’s just a solid list of artists, all of which are pioneers in their respective genres. Wouldn’t have pinned Koe as a Sinatra guy, but at the end of the day, have you really met someone who doesn’t like him? I don’t think I have.
