In case you’ve been living under a rock, rumors of Riley Green and Megan Moroney potentially dating have been swirling for months now. It first kicked off back in January when internet detectives pieced together that Green and Moroney were seemingly on vacation together in St. Barthélemy in the Caribbean after using some reverse image searches to match the background of their social media posts.
Weeks later, the pair once again sent the internet into a frenzy after the “Am I Okay?” singer posted highlights from the vacation. In the fifth picture on the post, a hand wearing a Rolex can be seen just in frame. Fans speculated that it was none other than Green’s.
A few days later on February 17th, the “Worst Way” singer added more fire to the flames when he posted a photo of him in the ocean wearing a watch very similar to the one in Moroney’s Instagram post. He would later take down the original photo, which had a reflection of a woman in his glasses, and blacked it out.
The rumors have been going strong into March, and Moroney finally set the record straight.
Gracing the cover of Rolling Stone for the first time in her career, Tomás Mier spoke with the Georgia native about everything from her outstanding success over the past two years, her relationship with pop star, Olivia Rodrigo, and most notably, her relationship with Riley Green.
Towards the end of the interview, Mier mentioned the buzz surrounding the relationship online, and Moroney noted that although they were vacationing separately, the internet rumors were true and her and Green did, in fact, meet up:, “He was individually on his vacation with his friends. St. Barts is a popular place! It’s one of those things where if you know someone on a small island, you’re like, ‘Oh sh*t, you’re here too.’ So it was fun.”
However, she denied that they were in a romantic relationship, “Just because we’re hanging out does not mean we’re romantically dating. You know what I mean?”
Moroney would also highlight the aforementioned detective work performed by fans, “I don’t blame them for doing some FBI research.”
It seems like that would clear things up for good. However, knowing the internet, I’m sure there will still be rumors popping up every single week until either Moroney or Green make another statement about the relationship.
