Riley Green Surprises Fans With Release Of New Acoustic EP ‘Midtown Sessions’ Featuring Brand New Song “Bartender In Destin”

Less than a year after dropping his 2024 album Don’t Mind If I Do, and in the middle of his packed Damn Country Music Tour, Riley Green has surprised fans with the release of a brand-new, fully acoustic EP.

Titled Midtown Sessions, the 5-song project dropped Friday, July 11, and strips some of Green’s hits down to their raw essentials: just his voice and a guitar. The 2025 Billboard Groundbreaker Award winner is known for his ability to shine in an acoustic setting, and he proves on this album once again that simplicity suits him perfectly.

The EP features acoustic versions of three fan favorites, “Change My Mind,” “Worst Way,” and “Jesus Saves,” alongside a heartfelt cover of Tim McGraw’s 2001 hit “The Cowboy In Me.” Diehard fans may remember that Green first covered the song back in 2021 and released it as a part of an Apple Music Session in 2024. Topping it all off, the last track is a completely brand-new song, “Bartender In Destin.”

Despite being only five songs, the short track list offers a compelling range of sultry beats to deep cuts and, of course, fresh material, which are all made more intimate by Green’s signature vocals. He couldn’t have picked a better three of his existing songs to put an acoustic spin on. All that’s missing is a bonfire and a cold beverage, and you basically have the peak listening experience.

In the past, Green has dabbled in acoustic releases with versions of his other popular tracks like “Hell of A Way to Go,” “Half of Me,” and “There Was This Girl.” But it’s great to see him expand on this sub-genre of his discography with a full, deliberate project. It also comes as a surprise release, following his last two 2025 covers, including a Spotify Singles version of “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room” in February, and a rendition of Toby Keith’s “Should’ve Been A Cowboy” for Apple Music Sessions.

On Midtown Sessions, Green doesn’t just showcase his raw range but also takes on a production role, co-producing “Worst Way,” “Jesus Saves,” and “The Cowboy In Me” with longtime collaborator Erik Dylan, who’s been with him since his debut album Different ‘Round Here. Apparently, when Green’s not performing on massive stages or taking a hunting break, behind the scenes, this project has been in the works over the past year.

It’s hard to believe that just seven years ago, Green launched his career in 2018 with his self-titled EP. Now, with multiple CMA and ACM awards under his belt, he’s headlining a global tour across the U.S., U.K., and Canada. He’s joined by an impressive lineup, including Ella Langley (his duet partner on “You Look Like You Love Me”), rising star Vincent Mason, country legend Jamey Johnson, and others like Lauren Watkins, Josh Ross, Drake White, and Hannah McFarland.

Despite this release being a bit of a curveball from the Duck Man himself, it shows that not even an international tour can slow Green down. And for fans, it might just mean one more new song to look forward to at his next show.
