Talk about the ultimate “Boomtown” experience.
Amid a flying sea of tossed cups and splattered beer, Treaty Oak Revival’s lead singer, Sam Canty, took one for the team and actually hopped into the crowd of fans below at their Syracuse concert last night. Their Thursday, September 24 show marked their first-ever New York concert, so obviously the fans at Empower Federal Credit Amphitheater deserved a little extra crowd-surfing energy.
And boy did Canty provide, leaving his guitar and mic stand behind to go and be lifted up by the crowd of New Yorkers for a hot second while the band’s tour manager, Blake Stiles, took over singing the 2021 track. After being plopped back down into the crowd, Canty crawled his way back onto the stage and, without a beat, grabbed his guitar and started rocking with his band again.
I don’t know how this man didn’t get whiplash, but all I’ve gotta say is I’m impressed. The insane, memory-making moment for every fan who helped hoist him up, and everyone who got to witness it, was the perfect example of what “Boomtown” should look like.
Fittingly enough, the moment also came just a few hours after the group was forced to address fans’ increasingly rowdy behavior during the song. In a clip posted to their social media, Canty and the guys warned everyone ahead of the show, “Stop throwing sh*t into the crowd or at the stage.”
They continued, noting, “We’re all for beer showers, we’re all for crowd surfing, we’re all for raging and having a good time, but please do not throw hard objects into the f*cking crowd.” ie. chairs, trashcans, and basically anything heavier than a plastic cup is off limits.
By the looks of it, and the lack of any incriminating viral clips online this morning, aside from a few cup towers, it seems like everyone behaved a little better this time around. Hopefully keeping this momentum going tonight(Sept. 25), Treaty Oak will return for another NY stop in Darien Center, followed by a show tomorrow night (Sept. 26) in Cincinnati, Ohio.
