What a massive single.
On paper, Luke Combs’ cover of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car” just may be the biggest single of his career to date.
Tracy Chapman released the original back in 1988 and her song (which has been one of my favorites since the first time I heard it 12 years ago) only peaked at No. 6.
As of today, Luke Combs tied Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night” with only taking 11 charting weeks to hit the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart. There’s a lot of politics from the labels that goes into earning number 1 songs on this chart but there’s no doubt (especially when you look at the streaming numbers) that fans LOVE Luke’s version, which stays true to the original.
This is Luke’s 16th career #1 single, 17 if you count his feature on Jameson Rodgers‘ “Cold Beer Calling My Name.“

Only took 11 weeks charting to reach #1, which ties “Last Night” for its quick chart climb to #1.
Luke’s 16th career #1 at country radio and 15th #1 on Billboard Country Airplay.
