Could Cloud 9 Deluxe be OTW?

The “Tennessee Orange” Georgia native, Megan Moroney, recently gave fans an exclusive peek at new music to come, yielding an acronym-heavy title. For those not deep in the emo-cowgirl fan base, it’s a pretty well-known “secret” that Moroney has her own personal private burner account, @emocowgirlduh on Instagram, where she shares all of the photo dumps that don’t make it on her official account.

Just last night, the 28-year-old singer-songwriter shared a compilation of photos including her dog Boots, snapshots from her time back in Nashville, her freshly announced perfume, behind-the-scenes tour shots, and a sneaky clip of an unreleased track, “nm, wbu?” (meaning ‘nothing much, what about you’ for those behind on texting lingo). Moroney also recently shared on the Katie & Company show that she’s very diligently attempting not to write throughout the Cloud 9 tour, yet this video marks her second recent teaser of new music since the album’s February release.

Just a couple of weeks ago, on July 5, Moroney shared to her public social media accounts another tune with a much slower melody, and the lyrics featured in the caption, “I could go anywhere I swear around the world & go see all there is to see.” The latest snippet track, on the other hand, is an upbeat banjo beat more reminiscent of the album’s bonus track, “sorry…I meant tonight.”

With many fans continuing to speculate that, now, six months later, Moroney still could have a deluxe version of the album up her sleeve, this snippet further fuels the rumors. One user also questioned whether this could be a potential collab with Brad Paisley.

While the two country stars recently exchanged autographed CD’s in Nashville at Paisley’s pop-up at Whiskey Jam, and Moroney’s long been vocal about the fact that she’s a super fan for his Mud on the Tires album, I think this theory might be a stretch (although I can’t deny I could very well hear Paisley’s voice and a guitar solo going hard on this track). However, the track most likely has some influence from long-time collaborator Mackenzie Carpenter, who gave her stamp of approval in the comment section of the TikTok post, saying, “sounds like a banger to me.”

Time will tell if this new song is an indication of an extension of her pink era or the beckoning of a completely new project to come, but considering it took Moroney four years to release her fan favorite “Wedding Dress” after first teasing it in 2022, Lord knows when this song will drop. For now, she’ll return to the stage tonight, July 24, in Monticello, Iowa, as she continues out on the remainder of her headlining arena tour.
