I think I need to log off the internet for the day after this one.
In the latest edition of “Ella Langley is receiving mass hate online because people can’t seem to comprehend that a country artist has one of the longest-running No. 1 songs,” people are now tearing her to shreds online for, get this, hunting. Old photos of the Alabama native hunting and posing alongside her kills are currently resurfacing on X, and for some reason, they’ve sent parts of the internet into mass hysteria.
Now this anti-hunting debate is nothing new, especially when it comes to country artists who grew up around the lifestyle. Earlier this year, Cody Johnson faced a similar wave of backlash after sharing photos from his own hunting trips.
I get that everyone has different hobbies and moral viewpoints when it comes to hunting, but c’mon, guys— we’re talking about country music artists here. And as for poor Ella, I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many egregious claims and assumptions made about someone online simply because they hunt.
Below is a screenshot of the main post people have dug up from December 2022, which has since racked up nearly 2M views (no doubt fueled by the wave of backlash now circulating online). Amid its newfound virality, X has also placed a content warning on the post, warning users that it is “age-restricted adult content” that “might not be appropriate for people under 18 years old.”

People are completely ripping her to shreds, continuing to throw around the “MAGA” label (despite Langley never discussing her politics), and some are even using the images to discredit her insane chart-topping feats on the Billboard Hot 100. Under the resurfaced tweet showing Langley posing behind a massive buck, hundreds of users have flooded the thread with criticism, including some pretty absurd claims:
There’s even now posts comparing Langley to her current co-holder of the longest-running Billboard Hot 100 No.1, Mariah Carey, showcasing their alleged differing opinions on animal rights:
Between the death threats and the numerous people attempting to launch a mass cancellation campaign over the photos, I have to wonder if the internet has truly lost its mind. Unfortunately, this is just another classic case of people deciding they don’t like someone and then searching for any reason to tear them down (despite the fact that Langley certainly didn’t invent hunting and is far from the only celebrity who participates in it).
Plenty of others came to Langley’s defense, pointing out that many of those condemning her likely eat meat themselves and that, once again, hunting is hardly some shocking new concept. Between this and the bizarre Hawk Tuah girl rumor, I think poor Ella deserves a break from the internet for a minute.
Backlash aside, the dominating female force in country music is having a standout year, with plenty more accolades potentially on the way as Langley heads into November’s CMA Awards with nine nominations and has fewer than 15 dates remaining on her highly successful 2026 Dandelion Tour. This weekend she’ll return down south for a string of three shows in Mississippi, Georgia, and Florida.
