During his recent appearance on “FLAGRANT“, a podcast featuring comedian Andrew Schulz, Jelly Roll expressed great criticism of how the church is portraying Jesus Christ in this day and age.
He appeared on the comedy podcast to discuss his massive new album, “Whissitt Chapel“, his life story, and, clearly, a few controversial topics.
While getting into the nitty gritty about his life, Jelly Roll was asked about comments he had previously made elsewhere, saying the new album was partly about his reconciliation with the church. He, in a way, goes on to call out the modern Christians. When asked to expand, he goes into many things he thinks are currently “wrong”. He predicts the church will suffer as a result of people “americanizing” Jesus and “weaponizing God.”
“Jesus and the church is gonna die, again, if they don’t find a way to portray him the way he was historically known to be.”
“Ya’ll have americanized Jesus and used him as a way of not only propaganda, but you’ve weaponized God… That was the opposite of who Jesus was.”
“The same people that you’re criticizing and going against are the only people that Jesus had a relationship with in the Bible. He did nothing but protect town-wh*res, prostitues, people in jail…”
After that video of Jelly Roll went viral, with the court of public opinion seemingly being split on his comments, Pastor Chase C. posted a video of his own condemning Jelly Roll, saying he’s leading people astray:
“As a pastor and knowing what the Bible teaches and hearing him talk about sinner….this is terrible. Like, he’s leading many people astray because it does not line up with the Bible.”
He also goes on to say:
“When they start singing about God and they start talking about the christian faith and it doesn’t line up with the Bible, we have to expose that to warn you.”
Pastor Chase also breaks down Jelly Roll’s comments about Jesus protecting town-wh*res and prostitues, seemingly stating its misleading:
“Well Jesus hung out with sinners, so should we. No, Jesus didn’t just hang out with sinners because they had a common interest. He warned them to repent. Read it for yourself.”
Craig Morgan, who recently just featured Jelly Roll on a new version of “Almost Home” off his “Enlisted” EP, commented simply asking, “Have you talked to him?”
Ernest also commented saying “Jelly is one of the purest / least judgmental dudes I know. He booosts everyone around him up. Great dude.”
