Jelly Roll Says Morgan Wallen & Zach Bryan Are Why Country Music Is So Big, Adds Wallen Is “More Brilliant Than He Gets Credit For”

Jelly Roll has talked extensively about how fortunate he feels to be a piece of the country music genre that is arguably as hot as it’s ever been.

The 39-year old singer/songwriter has expressed the present popularity of the genre many times before, along with other artists such as the reigning CMA “Entertainer of The Year,” Lainey Wilson, with both saying it’s “cooler than it’s ever been.”

On a recent appearance on the Full Send Podcast, Jelly Roll discussed the red-hot state of country music and complimented young stars such as Morgan Wallen and Zach Bryan for their influence on its growth:

“Morgan Wallen is almost single-handedly doing it… him and Zach Bryan, to me, are doing it by themselves.”

“They brought the national spotlight to the rest of us, we’re all just trying to get a little piece of that sunshine.”

Jelly Roll may just be a bigger Morgan Wallen and Zach Bryan fan than the rest of us.

The “Son Of A Sinner” singer has given the two young artists their share of praises time and time again, consistently showing his admiration for what they’ve been able to accomplish. He continues, sharing his respect for Wallen in specific:

“His voice is so good, his songs are so good. Morgan is a songwriter, dude. He’ll cut outside songs but his ear, his understanding…”

Morgan has not only written many of his own number one songs, but has also penned hit songs for other artists including Jason Aldean’s “You Make It Easy” and Corey Kent’s “Wild As Her.”

Jelly Roll appears to believe the artist’s commercial popularity hasn’t always translated to the critical acclaim, saying Wallen deserves credit for the deeper aspects of his talent such as his songwriting skills:

“The streams give him the credit he deserves, but critically he’s more brilliant than he gets credit for.”

“He’s truly brilliant man. He’s special. Because to me, all this boils down to songwriting…Like who can actually hold their weight.”

Clearly Jelly Roll thinks Morgan Wallen can hold his weight on the writing front, which is a major compliment coming from one of the most sought after singer/songwriters in country music right now.

Wallen has obviously skyrocketed into nationwide stardom and looking at all the recognition he’s gained through award nominations/wins, media, and through other artists’ respect, it’s an interesting take saying he deserves even more credit.

Regardless, it’s clear Jelly Roll cares about songwriting on a personal level and believes it’s one of the true tellings of talent. He thinks, along with being a football-stadium headliner, Morgan Wallen is also one of the best songwriters in Nashville.
