“Why Would He Be Driving This Beat Up Piece Of Sh*t?” – Treaty Oak Revival’s Sam Canty Recalls Hilarious Story Of A Fan Second Guessing Who He Was Due To His Truck

Fresh off the release of their acoustic album The Talco Tapes, more than midway through their headlining tour, and recently nominated for Best New Duo or Group at the 2025 ACM Awards, Treaty Oak Revival is on a record high. But you’d never guess any of that by looking at lead singer Sam Canty’s truck.

Given their affluence and fame, many expect their favorite artists to have the best of the best. In country music, this leads to the assumption that you’ve gotta have a lifted, souped-up truck. However, Canty pretty much proved that stereotype false on a recent appearance on The Watering Hole.

In an episode released on May 22, he sat down with the Stillwater, Oklahoma-based podcast to discuss everything from the band’s acoustic drop, having their music featured on Landman, and what life’s been like on the road. One story reaffirmed how down-to-earth the Treaty Oak singer is.

Canty shared a hilarious recount of a recent fan spotting out in the wild at the gas station. He starts off setting the scene, “I see this jacked up F250 pull in with music bumpin’ and the whole crew gets out, and it’s these 19-year-old kids. The kid just goes, ‘No F-ing way dude’… ‘dude you’re Treaky Oak.’”

The next half of the story leads to a jaw-droppingly audacious statement from the fan. “At the time I was driving a 2014 white F-150 EcoBoost, and this kid comes up and he’s like ‘nah that ain’t Treaty Oak. He’s like if he was Treaty Oak why would he be driving this beat up piece of s*** Ford F-150 right now. He’d be in a bada** brand new lifted truck like the one I got.”

With over 5.8 million monthly listeners on Spotify and a growing reputation as a major force in the red dirt rock-country scene, it makes sense that the members of the band would be out driving at least a Ford F-150 Raptor by now. But the fact that Canty kept his 2014 ride is honestly more admirable. Even amidst the rising fame, he has kept himself humble. “Dude, it gets me to point A to point B right now, why you talking s*** on my truck?”

The West Texas native finishes the story with the best clapback to the 19-year-old fans’ poor shaming comment. “Go to more of my concerts so I can afford a new truck like yours, bucko.”

With that advice in mind, if you’d like to donate to Canty and the rest of the bands’ truck funds, Treaty Oak Revivals’ first leg of their 2025 tour is continuing throughout June into August, with a second round of dates coming later in the year. Check out the remaining shows below:
