Following the incredible success of his anti-streaming project, Mutiny After Midnight, Sturgill Simpson has just announced a coinciding North American arena tour this fall.
Currently performing under the pseudonym alongside his band, Johnny Blue Skies & the Dark Clouds will hit the road for their Mutiny For The Masses Tour this upcoming September 4, starting out in Austin, Texas, followed by a string of 29 dates across the states, and with a stop in Vancouver. Solely rocking out on the stage with no openers, the highly anticipated tour will extend throughout September and round out on October 30 in Lexington, Kentucky.
This newest release for Johnny Blue Skies marks his second project under the alter ego, which sent shock waves in country music since its March 13 release, thanks to its non-traditional, solely physical release on vinyl, CD, and cassettes. Prior to hitting shelves, all 9 tracks were leaked on YouTube, amping up fans for their groovy, eclectic sound.
Encouraging listeners to indulge in its old school format and reviving a psychedelic sound that will “Make America Fuk Again,” as of today, the project is officially also available for digital download on iTunes with an exclusive bonus track. Following a “full album for purchase only” format, fans can listen to this new addition, which is the band’s revived take on Eddie Murphy’s “Party All The Time.”
Impressively, following its initial drop, the album climbed to the number three spot on Billboard’s Top 200 chart, yielding a whopping 59,000 units sold (all without the help of streaming, of course). According to Billboard, this feat for a physical release-only was unheard of for almost the past three years, with the last chart-topper to do so being Taylor Swift’s Record Store Day Exclusive, Folklore.
For fans hoping to hear this monumentous album brought to life, general tickets will go on sale on Friday, April 10th, at 10 am local time, as well as presale beginning Wednesday, April 8th, at 10 am local time. Likewise, to encourage completely fair purchases, the tour announced its use of Ticketmaster Face Value Exchange and AXS Resale so sellers can hand off their tickets to other fans at the original price paid.
