Man, I love these types of videos.
While casually scrolling the internet, I stumbled across this absolute gem of a throwback featuring a 2016 jam session between Luke Combs and the boys from Muscadine Bloodline.
Surrounded by nothing but good friends and a collection of (presumably empty) beer cans, the three were hangin’ out backstage, drinkin’ and singin’ when somebody decided to pull out what was probably an iPhone 6 and start recording.
Whoever made that decision deserves a big ol’ check, because nearly a decade later, we’ve been blessed with footage of the boys singing Combs’ “Hurricane” long before any of them became the names they are today.
“Hurricane” was Combs’ debut single at country radio and the song that helped kick his career into high gear. After initially gaining traction in 2015 and helping Combs land a record deal with Sony Music Nashville, the track was officially released through Columbia Nashville in October 2016.
By May 2017, “Hurricane” had climbed all the way to No. 1 on the Country Airplay chart, where it held the top spot for two weeks. In doing so, Combs became the first artist to spend multiple weeks at No. 1 with a debut single since Florida Georgia Line’s “Cruise” spent three weeks atop the chart in 2012.
And, as we all know now, that was only the beginning….
“Hurricane” has since been certified 12x platinum, surpassing diamond status, and helped launch one of the most dominant runs country radio has ever seen, with Combs earning 23 consecutive No. 1 singles to begin his career.
Of course, Muscadine Bloodline have done pretty damn well for themselves in the years since too, opening for Post Malone and now adding a few shows with Ella Langley to their resume. That makes watching the three of them sitting around backstage singin’ and drinkin’ before everything really took off that much cooler.
I’ll officially be starting a petition to get the boys back together in this exact type of atmosphere. Grab some beers, find a backstage room and, hell, I don’t know… fire up an Instagram Live. The fans, myself included, would eat it up.
