Rounding out his final few tour stops with a bang, Zach Top had plenty of tricks up his sleeve for his show this past weekend in Arkansas.
Beyond paying tribute to the late John Anderson with another stunning rendition of “Seminole Wind,” Top had another special treat in store for the crowd at the Walmart AMP. During his Saturday night show (Oct. 24) in Rogers, Arkansas, the “I Never Lie” singer welcomed his opening act, Lukas Nelson, back to the stage for a surprise duet.
And considering Top had the son of country music legend Willie Nelson hanging out backstage, it was only right that he take advantage of the opportunity to cover one of his father’s classics. The two joined forces for a rendition of Willie’s 1982 hit, “Last Thing I Needed First Thing This Morning.”
Their live rendition is already being coined by fans online as one of the best versions of the song, and I’d have to agree. In fact, I’d put it right up there with Chris Stapleton’s 2017 recording from his album From A Room: Volume 1.
Might I also just throw the idea out there one more time that this performance is further proof that Top could absolutely dominate with a cover album featuring some of his famous friends
The Washington native took the lead on the classic ballad, with Lukas to his side, taking the reins on the second verse. Beyond having Willie Nelson’s son help bring the classic to life, the unmistakable sound of that whining steel guitar on stage should’ve been enough of a giveaway that this rendition was bound to be incredible.
Both neotraditional country staples are set to return to the stage this Thursday (Oct. 29) in Atlanta, followed by Top’s final stop on his 2026 Cold Beer & Country Music Tour on Friday in Nashville. And in case you haven’t heard, Top will remain in Tennessee until Sunday (Nov. 1), for the premiere of his first Red Rocks concert film at a drive-in theater in Watertown, alongside another live performance for those in attendance.
