Riley Green is continuing to show some love to Sammy Kershaw…
The Alabama native, now rockin’ a full beard, recently took to his Instagram story to share a video of him performing Sammy Kershaw’s 1991 hit, “Yard Sale,” with the caption “felt like pickin’ a little Sammy this evening.”
But Green didn’t stop there. He followed it up with a throwback video featuring Kershaw when the two shared the stage together for a performance of the very same song on Riley’s “We Out Here Tour” back in 2022.
The posts come on the heels of Green publicly defending Kershaw after the country legend revealed that the CMA had denied his request to walk the red carpet with his wife at this year’s 60th annual CMA Awards.
The situation sparked frustration among fans, many of whom questioned why an artist who helped define the genre with three platinum albums and millions of records sold wouldn’t be welcome on the red carpet at country music’s biggest night but influencers and so-called “pop stars” seemingly have no problem getting an invite.
Green was among those who quickly came to Kershaw’s defense, commenting on his Instagram post: “If you haven’t earned the right to be there then nobody has… disappointing to say the least.”
And Green wasn’t alone, as several other country artists, including Carly Pearce, Jake Owen, Mark Chesnutt and Drew Baldridge, also voiced their support for the “Queen of my Double Wide Trailer” singer.
While the 38 year-old songwriter and newfound Voice coach didn’t explicitly reference the controversy in his latest Instagram stories, the timing certainly makes the posts feel like more than just a coincidence…
Nonetheless, Riley has never been shy about his love for traditional country music. Hell, he’s even brought guys like Tracy Lawrence and Jamey Johnson out on the road with him over the years, giving fans a chance to experience some of the artists who helped pave the way before him.
