Where in the heck does the time go?
As of today, May 17th, 2023, Alan Jackson’s legendary song, “Chattahoochee,” was officially released as a single 30 years ago. THIRTY frickin’ years.
Co-written by Jackson and Jim McBride, “Chattahoochee” was released from Alan’s 1992 album, “A Lot About Living’ (And a Little ’bout Love)”.
Label executive, Gary Overton, is on the record saying no one, absolutely no one, “wanted to put that out but Alan.” The song not only was different than anything else he had released prior, everyone questioned what the heck a “Chattahoochee” was, even Waylon Jennings.
“I think Waylon said one time, Waylon Jennings said, ‘What the hell is a ‘Chattahoochee’? That’s why it was surprising to me when they decided to put ‘Chattahoochee’ out, I was reluctant, because I said, ‘Nobody’s gonna know what that is. But the regular working people, professional people, just trying to do the same things, make a living, raise a family, enjoy life. I learned that there’s a Chattahoochee everywhere.”
The song went on to win Single Of The Year and Song Of The Year at the CMA Awards and spent four weeks at No. 1on Country radio. Out of Jackson’s 26 No. 1 hits, it’s arguably Alan’s biggest and one of the most iconic and legendary Country songs to ever exist. Happy 30th anniversary to “The Hooch.”
