Football and country music. What else could you ask for?
On Thursday ESPN announced the lineup for the 2023 AT&T Playoff Playlist Live, a series of concerts leading up to the 2024 College Football National Championship Game in Houston, Texas on January 8th. Among those set to perform are country staples Jon Pardi, Megan Moroney, and Jake Owen.
The concerts run from January 5th through the 7th, but all three country artists are set to perform Sunday the 7th. The shows are slated to take place at Shell Energy Stadium. Interestingly, the concerts are free, and anyone can attend by simply preregistering for tickets.
The inclusion of a full night of country artists is a reflection of the popularity of country in the mainstream today. Last year’s shows didn’t feature a single country artist, and the Playoff Playlist shows have rarely showcased country artists in the past.
Interestingly, the Georgia Bulldogs are one of the favorites to make the championship game, which is the team Moroney originally cheers for in her hit “Tennessee Orange”. Should Georgia make it that far, I personally think it would be very funny to see crowds of bulldog fans in the stands to hear Moroney sing about leaving her Georgia allegiance for a Tennessee boy.
Other artists performing championship weekend include Jack Harlow, Latto, and KIDZ BOP.
