Last night, the Country Music Hall of Fame posthumously inducted Toby Keith along with John Anderson and James Burton into their ring of honor.
Keith, who tragically passed away due to a long battle with cancer in February, was first announced as an inductee on March 18th. However, it was revealed that he was supposed to learn about his induction just one day after he passed.
Though Anderson and Burton got their flowers with Burton, in particular, receiving a star-studded tribute that included the likes of Brad Paisley, Vince Gill, Emmylou Harris and Kieth Richards, the highlight of the night for many contemporary country fans was undoubtedly Toby Keith’s tribute.
After Post Malone performed a cover of Keith’s 2001 #1 hit, “I’m Just Talkin’ About Tonight,” Blake Shelton and Eric Church took the stage to perform a few of the “American Solider” singer’s hits.
Shelton, who previously presented Keith with the Icon Award at the Inaugural People’s Choice Country Awards in 2023, performed a medley of “I Love This Bar” and “Red Solo Cup,” fittingly using his signature American Flag guitar.
Church, in his typical fashion, decided to honor Keith by performing a soulful rendition of his final hit, “Don’t Let the Old Man In.”
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Shelton and Church honored the legendary singer/songwriter given that he gave both of them a spot on some of their first major tours. Shelton joined Keith all the way back in 2002 on his Shock’n Y’all Tour while Church was present on his Locked and Loaded Tour back in 2011.
