Being fully transparent.
Whether you love him or hate him, Morgan Wallen has undoubtedly had a massive year.
In fact, describing 2023 as a “massive” year for him might actually be discrediting his impact in the music industry.
The 30 year-old singer dominated the charts and continuously broke records with his recent double album, “One Thing At A Time.”
Morgan recently took home more trophies than any other artist at the Billboard Music Awards with 11, had the highest grossing country tour of the year, and had the most streamed song, all-genre, in 2023 with “Last Night.”
On top of that, Morgan also holds the record for most weeks at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart this decade, surpassing Taylor Swift earlier in the year. Last Night also became the longest running No. 1 Country song in history on Billboard’s Hot 100, surpassing “Lady” by Kenny Rogers from 1980.
There’s a whole other list of records the Chasin’ You singer broke this year that I could go on and on about. With that said, when it came to the CMA’s, it didn’t matter.
Although Morgan hit the stage twice to perform “Man Made A Bar,” featuring a surprise appearance from Eric Church, and then again with back-to-back Joe Diffie covers alongside Post Malone & HARDY, he walked away with a big fat goose egg when the night was said and done.
Morgan was nominated in three categories, including for Entertainer of the Year, Album of the Year and Male Vocalist. Even though many fans thought Morgan’s impressive numbers should’ve made him the Entertainer, including Jason Aldean who spoke out beforehand asking “what more do you want him to do?”, Lainey Wilson ultimately took home the biggest award of the night.
After the show, Morgan posted a story to his Instagram that read:
“Walked in tonight a winner, didn’t leave no different.“
Well, in a recent interview with Billboard, Morgan addressed the situation again, admitting it got to him for a brief moment in time.
He said the CMA snub “bothered me for like five minutes. And then I’m like, ‘Why am I mad? I’m about to go play for 80,000 people in Atlanta.’ “
Talk about a “I just remembered who the fu*k I am” moment.
