We are so back.
In an alt country scene that continues to grow stronger seemingly every single day, it’s hard to come to a general consensus on who truly is the best of the best. One name that continually tops many spots (including mine) is none other than Dylan Gossett.
Starting off hot right from the start with his certified platinum single, “Coal,” in 2023. The Texan singer/songwriter has continually turned heads with quality release after quality release. With two EPs, No Better Time and Songs in the Gravel, under his belt, many were wondering when Gossett would deliver a full-length LP.
Minutes ago, Gossett took to Instagram to confirm that his debut album, Westward, is finished and releasing on Friday, July 18th.
In the Instagram caption announcing the record, Gossett said, “This album is a collection of stories that I wrote during the craziest 2 years of my life. I hope everyone can find something for themselves in it. Thank y’all so much.”
Given his track record, it’s safe to say that there will, in fact, be something for everyone to find themselves in. Taking inspirations from the likes of Bob Dylan, Gossett has established himself as one of today’s premiere lyricists. His ability to interweave feelings of longing, hope, nostalgia, love and loss in his songs simply feels effortless. There’s no doubt in my mind that Westward will top many “Album of the Year” lists upon its release.
As of now, there is no tracklist available for Westward. However, it’s safe to assume that 2024’s “Tree Birds” and his most recent single, “Like I Do” will appear on the project.
Gossett is currently about to take his current The Back 40 Tour north of the border on an extended run in Canada before returning to the U.S. for three nights in Florida. Upcoming dates include the following:
