Twenty-five years ago today, country music icon Reba McEntire took her last bow on Broadway, starring in the hit Irving Berlin musical, Annie Get Your Gun.
Prior to captivating TV screens across America on her self-titled sitcom in October of the same year, Reba’s almost five-month-long stint as the show’s lead sharpshooter, Annie Oakley, wrapped up its final showing at the Marquis back in June 2001. First written in 1946, the Broadway production quickly became a hit with the red-headed “Fancy” singer replacing Bernadette Peters as the perfect fill-in for Annie in this rendition, alongside her love-interest, Frank, played by Brent Barrett (and even a young Nick Jonas as “Little Jake”).
During its run, Reba had recorded two promotional versions of the show’s featured scores, including “You Can’t Get A Man With A Gun” and “I Got Lost In His Arms.” Now, a quarter century later, in celebration of this monumentous anniversary in the three-time Grammy Award-winning artist’s career, she has announced the official release of both tracks.
This drop also follows suit to her previously released EP from the vault, Hurt Like That. Last month, on May 22, Reba gifted fans with the five-song collection, including four of her fan favorites along with the newly recorded title track.
This year is bound to see more new music and reflection on her past hits from the legend, as she also continues to celebrate the 50th anniversary of her acclaimed career by dropping a new music capsule each month. Both of her blast from the past musical singles are now available to stream on all platforms, but for a real treat, don’t forget to watch some of Reba’s live western Broadway performances below:
