Has Ella Langley been subliminally messaging her massive ella-fella fan base all this time?
One TikTok user seems to believe so after finding an eerily similar connection between the 27-year-old hit makers, “Be Her” and the Super Mario soundtrack. Personally, I think her universal appeal is more so thanks to her undeniable looks, charming personality, and diverse discography as a whole, but hey, maybe he’s onto something.
Nashville-based artist TJ Watson showcased his unique findings a couple of days ago and has since blown up on the internet, with many shocked at the results of what simply speeding up the chord progression of Langley’s Dandelion single sounds like. With the help of his handy dandy keyboard and, I’d assume, a nerdy musical (and video game) background, Watson shares, “I think I’ve found the reason why every guy is in love with Ella Langley.”
He explains, “almost all of her songs have this one chord progression,” and for those who speak music-lingo, it’s apparently a “two minor that dissolves into one.” He goes on to demonstrate, playing the chorus of the hit co-written with Michael Hardy, Jordan Schmidt, and Smith Ahnquist.
Well sped up, apparently that same melody is quite literally the “Star Theme” song from the classic Super Mario Bros game.
Whether you played the OG version on the very first Nintendo NES or on the brand new Switch, I guarantee you’ll recognize this classic tune that plays when Mario (or Luigi) obtains star power and starts zooming across the screen. They say all country music takes is three chords and the truth; I just didn’t expect those chords to come from a Mario theme song.
Personally, I blame HARDY. But this similarity certainly explains why the girl-power anthem is a fan-favorite for Langley’s female AND male audience alike. Fellow Ella enthusiasts and everyone who grew up on the iconic Nintendo game ran to the comment section to elect Ella as the new Princess Peach.
After all, she did just release her latest ‘Peaches & Honey-flavored’ BUM energy drink. However, I think if we were coining her as a character, she’d be more of a Daisy.
Bringing her star power to the stage, Langley is returning to her home state this weekend for two back-to-back Auburn shows, continuing to captivate and/or brainwash her audience with the current Billboard Hot 100 hit sitting at spot No.10.
