After years of sporadic appearances, it seems as if Randy Travis has found a second wind as of late. After famously suffering a stroke that severely hindered his ability to speak and sing back in 2013, the “I Told You So” singer has sadly been incredibly limited physically.
With that being said, however, Travis has been making more public appearances lately. Releasing two new songs over the past 10 months with the assistance of A.I. and touring alongside his original band and guest vocalist, James Dupree, the 65-year-old singer/songwriter has been quite busy.
Yesterday, it was announced that Travis and his wife, Mary, will be working alongside Clay Walker to release a biopic depicting his legendary career.
According to People, the film will be titled after his signature song, “Forever And Ever, Amen,” and will follow his entire career up until the present day. Andrew Hyatt, most famous for his film, Paul, Apostle of Christ and the Phil Robertson biopic, The Blind, will direct and write the film.
The first draft of the film’s script was completed by Hyatt last fall and received high praise from Mary Travis: “This is what we prayed for — for somebody who would tell Randy’s life story just as he lived it.“
Walker also has heavy involvement in the film. Not only has he signed on to be an executive producer of Forever and Ever, Amen, the “She Won’t Be Lonely Long” singer will also star as Travis towards the latter half of his career.
During a show at the Opry, Walker said, “We’re going to be producing the first, the most epic, Randy Travis biopic, a movie about Randy Travis’ life. We’re going to start shooting this summer, and you can expect the movie sometime out in 2026.”
Walker, who has been championing a film about Travis for years, also added, “Randy Travis is the voice of a generation and one of the greatest country singers of all time. I am truly honored to be a part of this project, and cannot believe I get to play one of my heroes.”
Travis himself commented on the film, “We’ve been approached many times through the years about doing a movie… but the timing or team has never felt quite as good as it feels right now. With Clay on our side, and the creative direction he and the producers have, I feel good about telling my story through this medium.”
Forever and Ever, Amen is set to be released in 2026.
