In case you missed it, last night’s event at the Bluebird Cafe was a star-studded affair. Magic always tends to happen at the Bluebird but this performance was the unexpected crossover we didn’t know we needed. Megan Moroney took part in an intimate “Writers Round” at the cafe, where she was joined by Ed Sheeran, songwriter David Hodges, and artist Amy Allen.
Surrounded by an enthralled crowd, Moroney debuted a brand-new, unreleased song titled Beautiful Things. The heartfelt track tells the story of the destruction of perfection and the message of keeping your head up throughout the pain and hardship.
A TikTok clip from the performance shows Moroney, admired by Sheeran himself, singing the heartfelt lyrics: “A hurricane can wreck a beach, words can make a mockingbird forget their born to sing, lies can break a fragile heart and doubt can crush your dreams but honey just take it from me…The world is hard on beautiful things.”
She continues with the chorus, which, in my opinion, reflects Kenny Chesney’s influence on her and echoes his hit with David Lee Murphy, Everything’s Gonna Be Alright. Repeating affirmations of hope, she sings, “Shine, it’s gonna be alright, you’re gonna be alright.”
This isn’t the first time Moroney has teased new music in the past few weeks. During her tropical island time in the Bahamas, Moroney posted a few flips of her working on unreleased songs. Early in January, she posted a clip with the caption, “for MM3” so I think it’s safe to say a full album is on the horizon.
Moroney has had a busy start to 2025 amidst dating rumors, an NPR tiny desk performance, and her recent cover feature for Rolling Stone. It’s hard to believe she has time to churn out these soon-to-be hit songs, but she continues to prove that she is THE girl boss of country music.
In just a few days she’ll be heading out on the Am I Okay? Tour which will start in Montreal, Quebec on March 20 and continue throughout the summer ending in Charlotte North Carolina on September 13. I’ll be on the edge of my seat for the next few months eagerly awaiting to see if she’ll drop the album during the tour or wait until after in the fall.
