After a four-year hiatus, Morgan Wallen returned to Theo Von’s podcast, This Past Weekend. Gearing up for the release of his fourth studio album, I’m The Problem, Wallen and Von talked about everything from the album creation process, prepping for his new tour and raising his son, Indigo.
In between revealing that he recorded “50 or 51” songs for I’m The Problem and confirming that a rap-inspired flip of Keith Whitley’s “Miami, My Amy” will appear on the record, Wallen and Von began talking about the “Last Night” singer’s newfound love of motorcycling.
During the conversation about riding his new Harley, Von, in typical fashion, began riffing about how Wallen’s photo of his new bike looks like a cologne ad, saying, “I’ll buy the cologne, whatever they’re selling.”
This somehow led to the comedian proposing the question, “What if you had to blow to start that thing? What if you had one of those breath things [breathalyzers]?”
Wallen didn’t skip a beat. Laughing, he replied, “I’m surprised I don’t. I’m surprised they don’t have that on every vehicle I’ve got. Shoutout to Davidson County.”
This was, of course, in reference to the 31-year-old singer/songwriter’s most recent arrest in Davidson County after his infamous chair-throwing incident at Eric Church’s Nashville bar, Chief’s, last year, which resulted in him receiving seven days in a DUI education center and a two-year supervised probation.
Though I’m sure he knows about Wallen’s recent run-ins with law enforcement over the last few years, it’s not clear if Von actually knew that Wallen had, in fact, been charged with a DUI (though it would eventually be dismissed) in 2016. Knowing Von, he honestly probably didn’t, and that’s what makes it that much funnier.
Wallen will be hitting the road this summer on the I’m The Problem Tour along with Miranda Lambert, Koe Wetzel and more. Hitting 10 cities on back-to-back nights, the “Whiskey Glasses” singer will visit the likes of Houston, Seattle and Foxborough throughout the summer.
