Pretty cool to see.
Last night, Morgan Wallen and Luke Combs tied for Songwriters Of The Year at the 71st annual BMI Country Awards.
After being crowned by BMI, the two country stars, who are currently viewed by many as the biggest artists in the genre, shared the stage for a rare performance that involved them singing one another’s hits.
Morgan decided to tackle an acoustic performance of “Going, Going, Gone,” the third single off Luke’s third studio album, Growin’ Up.
In return, Combs gave a moving performance of Morgan’s “Thought You Should Know,” a track he co-wrote as a tribute to his mother, alongside Miranda Lambert and Nicolle Galyon.
Earlier in the year, Luke sat down with the guys from the FULL SEND podcast, where he was asked who he believes is the biggest country artist in the world right now. Luke gave a very bold, yet honest answer, saying:
“It’s me or Wallen for sure.“
The conversation does go a little deeper when Luke is asked if there is a competition between him and Morgan: “I think anybody who says there’s not is lying. Any business is competitive.”
Despite the competition, the two artists appeared to share a memorable moment with each other last night. One that may help kickstart the collaboration they’ve been hinting at over the last year.
