Yeah, I’m gonna add this to the long list of covers I need Zach Top to release on streaming services immediately…
It’s no secret (or at least it shouldn’t be anyway), that Zach Top is emerging himself as one of the biggest country artists in the genre. While Morgan Wallen and Zach Bryan overwhelmingly dominate streaming numbers, Top is bringing back that traditional 80’s and 90’s sound country music fans clearly still crave, and doing it extremely well I might add.
And when it comes to that traditional sound, Top says it’s all authentic:
“It’s not like a 90’s gimmick thing…this is all I know how to do. It’s not like I made the choice to be the 90’s throwback guy. I grew up listening and learning from the same guys that all those 90’s guys would’ve been influenced by.”

While his original music, especially the songs from his recent sophomore studio album, “Cold Beer & Country Music,” are nothing short of incredible, the man does every artist before him justice when he adds his smooth and twangy vocals into the mix. From his acoustic covers of George Strait’s “I Can Still Make Cheyenne” and “Nobody In His Right Mind Would’ve Left Her” (you can watch that here), to his live performance of Chris Stapleton’s 2015 hit, “Nobody to Blame.”
And now, Top recently covered one of the greatest country songs of all time, “Two Dozen Roses,” during his acoustic set at Watershed Fest in George, WA.
“Two Dozen Roses” was originally written by Mac McAnally and Robert Byrne and was released by Shenandoah in 1989 as the fourth single from their sophomore record, “The Road Not Taken.”
While the song has been covered numerous times over the last few decades, with a growing amount over the last couple years sparked from a resurgence on TikTok, there’s not many (if at all even one), better suited to cover the 35 year-old song than Zach Top.
Top’s twangy vocals and smooth delivery make for a performance that captures you in right away and makes you wanna go down a rabbit hole of ZT videos on the YouTube. In the meantime, check it out for yourself here:
