You know the phrase “you don’t know until you ask?”
Well, in today’s tough economy, that mantra has inspired a new trend of messaging artists online and simply asking for free tickets. After all, what’s the harm in asking?
While the concept has certainly worked for a handful of people, one fan was in for a rude awakening when she tested out this method on early 2000’s and 2010’s country staple, Billy Currington. TikTok user @emmadisarro posted her recent Instagram DM interaction with the “People Are Crazy” singer, where she reached out asking if he could “hook us up with some tickets.”
She explains that she and her four friends are home from college and, in true summer break fashion, would love to come to a show, specifically his upcoming June 19 concert at Hertz Arena in Estero, Florida. And with newcomer viral artist, Kenny Whitmire, opening for one of Currington’s rare headlining sets, I can’t say I blame her.
Of course, the fan goes on to express her love for Currington, adding, “you are our favorite…(especially doing something right and good directions.)” Now, mistake number one was mentioning two of Currington’s biggest, most well-known hits as “favorites”; she could have at least picked some more unique deep cuts.
Ending the message with one of the least convincing arguments, she says, “ngl we would go anyways, but you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take! can’t wait xoxo.” As luck would have it, Currington did reply back, but unfortunately for Emma, her request was an absolute airball of a shot.
The next day, Currington hilariously responded, “better tell ur bf to get em for u.” The real kicker? Emma confirmed that her boyfriend of almost seven years also did not buy the tickets for her.
In her caption, she disappointingly writes, “bf did not buy them. billy did not buy them. what’s a girl to do. @billycurrington if you change your mind yk where we’ll be.” And for everyone wondering whether an interaction this silly could be real life or not, she confirmed in the comments:

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for a little ingenuity and being a risk taker, after all, you never know which artists may just be feeling extra giving in the moment when they check their DMs. However, I think the boldness of people to assume that artists are just gonna hand out free tickets left and right is a little naive, especially when you outright admit that you’re going to attend the concert free or not.
While sure, Currington’s response could be considered a PR nightmare, you gotta give him points for the most unexpected clapback of the century. Many in the comments of the post felt the same way, agreeing that his response to the ballsy request was both comical and valid:

And of course, there were a few other fans who were rubbed the wrong way by the sassy remark and sympathized with the young fan:
