With Alan Jackson’s Incredible Performance Of “America The Beautiful” After It Was Re-Aired This Fourth of July Weekend
Honoring the recently retired country music legend, PBS re-aired one of Alan Jackson’s most memorable patriotic performances from its annual Fourth of July broadcast.
During this year’s A Capitol Fourth special, over the weekend on Friday, July 3, they included Jackson’s stripped-down rendition of the patriotic classic, “America the Beautiful,” recorded back in 2021. Backed by an array of American flags and dazzling red and blue lights on the Nashville stage, a message at the bottom of the screen let viewers know, “Previously Recorded, Ryman Auditorium.”
Even though the repurposed recording is now five years old, it’ll still have you reaching for the box of tissues all over again. Given Jackson’s continued battle with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease following his 2011 diagnosis, he made his retirement from touring official following his final concert at Nissan Stadium. However, this heartfelt rendition is just another reminder of the endless iconic performances from his nearly 40-year-long career.
They also truly could not have picked a better person than the man behind “Remember When” to sing this stunning American anthem, which dates back to the late 1800’s. Stunting in his patriotic red pearl snap button-up with his acoustic guitar in hand, Jackson’s footage was intertwined with a video collage of some of the country’s most beautiful landscapes.
Visibly touched by his own hauntingly good performance, at the end, Jackson tapped his heart with his hand, closing his glossy eyes in a nod of admiration for the patriotic tribute. This year, Jackson’s recording joined the likes of live performances from fellow country music stars Trace Adkins and Carly Peace, along with performances from The National Symphony Orchestra, the U.S. Army Herald Trumpets, Patti Labelle, Chicago, and more.
Fair warning: if you thought the slew of heart-string tugging clips circulating on the internet from last weekend’s concert were bad, prepare yourself to shed a few tears while watching this touching tribute to the land of the free.
