The song that started it all.
Exactly one year ago today, Megan Moroney released her highly successful single, “Tennessee Orange.”
Written by Moroney, as well as Ben Williams, David Fanning and Paul Jenkins, the song tells the story of a diehard Georgia Bulldog fan seemingly falling for a guy so hard that she is now wearing “Tennessee orange for him,” while asking her mama for forgiveness and hoping her daddy doesn’t find out.
Megan originally released the song independently but after going absolutely viral on TikTok, she signed with Sony and released her incredible debut studio album, “Lucky,” on May 5th.
Tennessee Orange rose to the top of the charts, earning Megan her first career No. 1 single at Country radio, her first ever CMT Award for Breakthrough Female Video Of The Year and her first ever platinum certification from the RIAA. The success from the song didn’t come without a little fun controversy, however.
Back in August of last year, Megan took to social media to promote the upcoming release of the single, posting a photo of her wearing a Tennessee Vol’s shirt, which is Morgan Wallen’s favorite team.
After fans noticed Morgan had also been commenting on her Instagram posts, speculation that the two were dating went through the roof. Although Megan never confirmed any of the dating rumors, she did admit that she was wearing his shirt when pressed by the hosts of The Highway on SiriusXM.
Fast forward to today….and Megan is the hottest (figuratively) up-and-coming act in Country music. I have a strong feeling she’s going to have one helluva career.
