There’s a universal truth in the country music industry right now that few would disagree with: Zach Top is the GOAT. Almost every artist you ask seems to share this sentiment, which speaks to just how incredible the Washington native is.
Even Morgan Wallen recently admitted on Theo Von’s podcast that while he’s not a big country music listener, he still recognizes Zach’s talent, calling him “very solid.” Likewise earlier this year, Post Malone shared that his two most-played artists on Spotify Wrapped were Zach Top and George Strait. If being shouted out by Post Malone isn’t an honor enough, being mentioned in the same sentence as the King of Country is a huge deal.
The bottom line is, Zach Top’s influence and credibility in the industry are through the roof. Adding to this, the latest artist to hop on the Zach Top bandwagon is Christian singer Brandon Lake.
On Wednesday night, April 8, Lake posted a clip on his Instagram showing his family singing along to one of Top’s biggest hits, “I Never Lie.” The video shows Lake dancing with his wife, Brittany, in the kitchen, fittingly using a fork as a makeshift microphone. One of their three sons also makes an appearance, jumping around on the couch and dancing along with their rendition—ending with a fierce riff at the end of the chorus.
He captioned the post by tagging @zachtop and simply saying, “we’re fans.”
Not only is Zach Top helping redefine the classic country music revival, but it seems he’s also bringing families together. If this at-home concert by the Lakes isn’t family goals, I’m not sure what is.
The 34-year-old worship singer and songwriter was born in Dallas, TX, and raised in Myrtle Beach, SC, so while I’m sure he’s no stranger to country music, it’s heartwarming to see him embracing some of the newer voices in the genre.
Recently, Lake has leaned more into country music, especially after his popular collaboration with Jelly Roll on “Hard Fought Hallelujah.” The two have become a powerful duo in the industry, with Lake making a cameo on American Idol, where Jelly Roll is currently a mentor, and the pair co-hosting a podcast and performing at the Grand Ole Opry.
Personally, I think Brandon Lake and Zach Top would make an incredible duo. Lake’s voice fits the country genre perfectly, so if he continues to collaborate with country artists, I’d love to see a duet between these two. Hearing Zach Top on a worship song would undoubtedly give us a million reasons to praise the Lord.
Lake is also featured on Rascal Flatts’ upcoming album, “Life Is A Highway: Refueled Duets” – teaming up with the trio for a reimagined version of their 2007 single, “Stand.”
For those of us like Brandon Lake who can’t seem to get enough of Zach Top, you’re in luck! He’s currently on his Cold Beer and Country Music tour and will be performing all summer long, wrapping up in late August.
