We are so back.
After releasing two new singles, “Damn Near Normal” and “9 Lives (Black Cat),” over the past two months, everyone knew Koe Wetzel had something new in the works. The “February 28, 2016” singer has officially announced that his fifth studio album, “9 Lives” will be released on July 19.
Wetzel took to Instagram on April 26 with a video teasing a “big announcement coming Monday.” Flash forward to today and he made the official announcement for the brand new album.
Wetzel describes the album as showing a different side of him, “I want fans to know that there’s a different side of me, not just the sex, drugs, and rock & roll Koe that they may have heard about online. I’ve grown up a little bit. I’m no longer the 20-year-old kid that’s partying down and getting thrown in jail all the time. 9 Lives reveals a vulnerable side that people may not be used to hearing.”
Judging by the quote and the description on Wetzel’s website, 9 Lives may be a step in a new direction for him sonically, being described as “mixing country with rock, hip-hop, and grunge.”
The record will be produced predominantly by Gabe Simon, the producer of Noah Kahan’s breakthrough album, Stick Season, as well as Sam Harris who frequently collaborates with the alternative rock band, X Ambassadors.
9 Lives contains 13 songs, including the aforementioned “Damn Near Normal” and “9 Lives (Black Cat).”
