Been sittin’ on this one for a LONG time.
Last month Chris Stapleton released his highly anticipated, fifth studio album, “Higher.“
It had been three years since the superstar last released a full-length record, and let’s just say, it was well worth the wait.
The record features a total of 14 tracks, and Chris is listed as a co-writer on all of them.
In an interview with TODAY, Stapleton revealed that he wrote the title track of the new album over two decades ago:
“The title track, Higher, is… well what year is it? It’s twenty-two years old, twenty-three years old. That song was on the first demo session I ever did when I moved to town as a songwriter.”
Another song that he’s been keeping to himself for quite is a while, is the powerful tribute to his wife, “It Takes A Woman.”
I came across this video of Chris performing the track, alongside his wife per usual, way back in 2013 on Valentine’s Day at the Station Inn in Nashville. While it’s not of professional quality, it’s pretty damn cool to see how long he held on to this song for.
Plus, even though it may be hard to grasp, this video was recorded back before Chris was the household name he is now. His debut album didn’t come out for another two years after this performance.
