Last night, at the Songs and Stories of Dean Dillon tribute concert, legends such as George Strait, Vince Gill, Ronnie Dunn and Sammy Kershaw performed along with the likes of current stars, Cody Johnson, Riley Green and ERNEST to honor the legendary singer/songwriter.
Dillon has a laundry list of hit songs including Strait’s “The Chair,” “Easy Come, Easy Go,” “Marina Del Ray” and “Ocean Front Property” and most notably “Tennessee Whiskey.” The Tennesee native has also cut songs with the likes of Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith, Alabama, Brooks & Dunn and even Hank Williams Jr. and Waylon Jennings.
Despite all of the legends performing at the tribute concert, the highlight of the night very well might have been Zach Top’s cover of Keith Whitley’s 1985 hit, “Miami, My Amy.”
Though it never reached the Top 10 back in 1985, there’s no doubt that the track is one of Whitley’s most popular in his discography today with over 33 million streams on Spotify alone.
It should come as no surprise that Top would absolutely kill a Keith Whitley cover. Like most of his covers, it’s more than apparent that his voice is built for the songs of yesteryear. With that said, we need a cover album from Top asap.
