That time of year again. It’s December, and that means two things: an overload of Christmas music anytime you leave the house, and “best of” year end lists. Rolling Stone recently put out their 100 Best Albums of 2023, and on Friday they followed it up with their 100 Best Songs of 2023. The Top Albums list showed the country scene some love, but the Top Songs list took it a step further. The ranking highlighted six country songs, with five of those being in the top 50. Well deserved. On Thursday Rolling Stone released their list of “The 100 Best Albums of 2023,” and country artists were well represented. Among the entries were Megan Moroney’s Lucky at 43, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit’s Weathervanes at 25, and Zach Bryan’s Zach Bryan coming in at number 10. The magazine was very complimentary of all three artists in their publication of the list. Bryan’s self titled record was one of the most commercially successful entries on the list, and Rolling Stone gave a small nod to that fact. I’d pay to watch that. On Tuesday Tom Brady posted a reel to Instagram of himself taking a few golf swings. In the background of the video, several Morgan Wallen songs could be heard playing, including “Broadway Girls” and “Whiskey Friends.” Apparently, Morgan noticed. What a pleasant surprise. On Tuesday, Tim McGraw surprised audiences with the release of his new EP, Poet’s Resume. McGraw announced the project with an Instagram post Tuesday showing his gratitude for his fans. The EP fits well with the message of gratitude and reflection that McGraw shared on social media.
